Phil Gould has led tributes to ‘great guy’ Steve Blyth after the football great died aged 69.
The former Newtown Jets and Wests Magpies star suffered from dementia and died at Gosford Hospital on Wednesday, both clubs confirmed in separate statements.
“We send our deepest comfort to his family and friends,” the Jets said on Twitter about Blyth, who played in the 1981 grand final.
Gould, who played alongside Blyth for the Jets in that loss to Parramatta, shared his heartbreak after hearing the news.
“I’m very sad,” he tweeted.

Wests said in a statement: “Steve was a tough second rower and crowd favorite during his days with the Magpies at Lidcombe Oval.
“Wests Tigers extends its deepest condolences to Steve’s family and friends.”
