A six-year-old boy died Monday after being bitten by a lion in a local zoo in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, according to security and medical sources.
“The child climbed into the protection surrounding the lion’s cage and approached one of its openings, which led to his injury and death,” police spokesman Ayman al-Batniji said in a statement.
He added that the police opened an investigation into the incident.

The accident occurred in the entertainment city “Asdaa”, which includes a small zoo.
Following the incident, the police closed down this amusement park.

An eyewitness told AFP, “The child entered through a small hole in the iron fence wrapped with barbed wire, then reached the lion’s cage, and approached it, so the lioness bit him from the head, then the security forces came and pulled the child while he was bleeding from his head, and he was taken to the hospital.”
