Antwainese Square, 39, had been taking a morning walk near Mountain Creek in Dallas on Saturday when she discovered Cash Gernon’s lifeless body on the street

The female passerby who discovered the body of four-year-old Cash Gernon in Dallas on Saturday remembers finding the boy in a pool of blood with “ ants crawling on his bare feet ” shortly after he was kidnapped, stabbed to death, and on street dumped.

Antwainese Square, 39, said she had been on a powerwalk around the Mountain Creek neighborhood of the city at around 6:45 a.m. when she suddenly stumbled upon what she initially thought was an animal’s body.

‘At first I thought what I saw was a dog, but as I got closer I started to notice things, like a hand. And I just started screaming, ‘Square told DailyMail.com.

Less than two hours earlier, police said Cash had been snatched from his bedroom in a nearby house by 18-year-old Darriynn Brown, who reportedly stabbed the toddler to death with a “sharp weapon.”

Brown, who already wore an ankle bracelet from a previous offense, was arrested hours later for kidnapping and theft. Pending the results of a forensic analysis, he is expected to incur additional costs.

Square, a mother of three, spoke of her fear of finding the boy shortly after Cash’s caretaker collapsed sobbing at the makeshift shrine where he was found.

“I’ll never forget the ants crawling over his bare feet,” she said.

‘I turned into the street and thought I saw a dog lying there. We have a lot of loose dogs here.

‘I called my mom because all I could see first was her. I said, “Mom, it’s weird, it doesn’t move. So I started walking slowly and as I got closer I started noticing things.

“I said,” Mom, I see a hand, I think I see a body. I think I really see a body. ” And I got close and I said, “Mom, it’s a child. It’s a child.” And I just started screaming. ‘

Square hung up and called emergency number. Paramedics did their best to calm her down and asked to check her for signs of life.

They asked me to walk to the body in case the little boy was still alive. And if it did, I’d try to save his life, ”she said.

‘I saw ants crawling over his bare feet and he had blood all over his face. He had no shoes, no socks, no shirt, none of that.

‘He was wearing only shorts, shorts. I just keep remembering those ants at the bottom of that baby’s feet.

Square told DailyMail.com that she originally believed the boy's body was a dog until she noticed his `` arm and leg. ''

According to reports, Cash (pictured) and his twin brother Carter were in the care of Monica Sherrod, his biological father’s ex-girlfriend whose whereabouts are unknown.

He was on his back in the roadway. I remember an arm and a leg out. And the reason I remember the arm and leg is that as I walked up from a distance, the determination was mine to know, okay, this is a human. This is not a dog, this is a human.

And when I found out it was a kid, I panicked. My first thought was, one of these loose dogs came to this baby because of the blood on his face. And then I thought, maybe someone ran over him like a bull’s eye. ‘

Square, an educator, said she remembers heading for her morning walk and activating the pedometer on her phone at exactly 6:40 AM. Five minutes later, she was faced with the horror scene.

She continued: ‘I stayed with him until the police came, there was no way I would leave that baby alone.

“Whether he was dead or alive, I just didn’t want to leave him. I was afraid someone would accidentally run him over.

In fact, an SUV came out of the driveway close to where it was and I stopped it. Since I wanted the driver to see what had happened, I didn’t want anyone to run him over.

‘I was like his guardian. I just wanted to help him, do what I could do to give him the rest he needed. Even though I knew he was dead. ‘

Square, who has daughters aged 3 and 12, plus a 17-year-old son, continued: “I finally realized that Cash had died when I saw the ants on his feet.

‘First it was the mouth, open. I was like, is he sleeping? Even though I saw the blood on his face, you don’t want to believe this kid is gone. But when I saw ants it was in my mind that he was gone. I will never forget that. ‘

‘I thought: why him? Why couldn’t I have seen this before? The feeling I have is why I had to come afterwards. Why might I not have been able to help him? It’s traumatizing. As a mother, I was particularly tormented.

‘Today I had to leave work. I had a trigger, I saw a woman walking with her son and her son looked about the age of that little boy. I realized, you know, I might need help. ‘

Previously, Monica Sherrod – who cared for Cash and his twin brother Carter when he was kidnapped – broke out in uncontrollable sobs while visiting the site where he was first found.

Sherrod is the ex-girlfriend of Cash’s unnamed father, who she says left the children in her care after he disappeared in March.

She told Dailymail.com: ‘We were all asleep when it happened. Cash usually wakes me up, but he didn’t wake me up.

When I got up, I found he was gone. I called 911. I didn’t even know anyone took it.

‘I thought he might have gone out. That was until I looked at my security camera, which showed someone turned it off. ‘

A police report shows that Sherrod called the emergency number at 11 a.m. The footage shows that Cash was shot at 5 AM.

Sherrod said, “I know Darrilyn. He is the brother of a friend of my other older sons. ‘

She arrived at the makeshift shrine with her mother, Lezlee Pinkerton, an unknown man, and her two teenage boys.

The group clung to each other sobbing after depositing a large dinosaur toy from Cash with other tributes that were already there.

“This is the first time we and Monica have been to where Cash was found,” the unnamed man told DailyMail.com.

Monica was only talking about the kids, Cash, and his brother, because their father had abandoned them. He just left them. He was her ex-boyfriend. ‘

Police have not named Cash’s father. Meanwhile, his biological mother, Melinda Seagroves, “allegedly conducted an extensive search for her sons for a long time,” police said.

She and Carter have since reunited and are in Houston.

Brown is said to be on surveillance footage of Sherrod’s house, according to an affidavit of the warrant.

He was arrested at his home and remains behind bars on charges of kidnapping and burglary in lieu of $ 1.5 million bail.

Brown was carrying an ankle monitor from a previous charge for evading arrest in late April, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Assistant Police Chief Albert Martinez said, “We are shocked, we are very angry about what happened to this little child.”
