Last year it was announced that Elizabeth would take over from Emma Corrin and play Diana for the fifth and sixth series, which will cover Diana’s death in 1997.
The actress said of her casting last year: “The spirit of Princess Diana, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It’s a privilege and honor for me to be a part of this masterful series, which I was absolutely addicted to from episode one.”
While it is not yet known which storylines will follow the fifth and sixth series, it has been said that they will bring the drama into the 21st century.
Episodes could deal with Prince Andrew’s divorce from Sarah Ferguson, the Windsor Castle fire, and Princess Anne’s divorce from Mark Phillips, all of which took place in 1992.
It may also include the tragic death of Princess Diana in 1997 and the subsequent death of Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother in 2002.
