The creator of Vampire Diaries gets a new supernatural show based on her book series The Forbidden Game

Fans of The Vampire Diaries are thrilled by the novelist behind the popular fantasy show L.J. Smith.

Smith’s book series The Forbidden Game was recently picked up for a miniseries by producer Greg Berlanti, Deadline reported last week.

While a series writer has not yet been announced, Berlanti will partner with Warner Bros. TV and its Berlanti Productions President David Madden and President Sarah Schechter produce.

The Forbidden Game trilogy was published in 1994 by the New York Times Bestselling author and consisted of the three books The Hunter, The Chase and The Kill.

Each of the YA novels follows a teenage girl named Jenny and her group of friends as they start a horrifying game similar to Jumanji.

They are dropped into different worlds and are forced to face their worst nightmares at the risk of death or being stuck in the game forever.

WBTV produced Smith’s book series The Vampire Diaries on CW from 2009 to 2017.

Berlanti tapped Madden as president of his manufacturing company in February, then moved President Schechter to chairman after six years in the role.

Madden was previously president of AMC Networks and Fox Broadcasting Company.

Berlanti Productions works under WBTV under a multi-year agreement that runs until 2024. Under Schechter, the company expanded to a record 20 TV series across seven outlets.

Some of the popular shows the company produced, You, The Flash, Arrow and The Tomorrow People.
