The Commercial Hotel Rappville shuts after 113 years

A World Heritage-listed country pub faces permanent closure after 113 years in business.

Pub-goers enjoyed one last beer on Saturday in the Commercial Hotel Rappville, about 80 km north of Grafton in New South Wales‘Northern Rivers, Saturday night.

Innkeeper Lisa Stewart has stuck to her asking price of $975,000 for the place since she put it up for sale several months ago.

However, locals fear that if a buyer is not found, the historic pub could close its doors for good.

“We will not be selling to anyone who wants to turn the hotel into a home,” Ms Stewart wrote online.

‘The hotel must remain operational as a business in whatever capacity it may entail with the license attached.

‘So rest assured that we will only sell if the hotel remains open to the people of Rappville and the general public.

“It’s not always about money, it’s about preserving the historic buildings and the history, the stories and the purpose of their lives.”

More to come.
