The Coconu Wave massager is a powerful palm-sized vibrator

There is something so accessible over palm-sized vibrators like the Coconu Wave. They have rounded edges and are smooth, small enough to store on a nightstand or backpack, and fit perfectly in your hand.

Because of this, they are intuitive in a way that other sex toys are not: they work in harmony with your hands to create an elevated sexual experience, for you or your partner. Coconu Wave Massager exemplifies these qualities with such experience that you would never guess what the company is first vibrator.

Carefully crafted

I’ve tried many first-draft vibrators from sex tech companies that typically specialize in other areas of the industry. I have yet to try one that is unusable, but they all share a certain quality. There’s a hesitation in the design, a sense that this product is a version created by someone without much institutional knowledge. Sometimes the battery life decreases, the shape is strange or the motors are more Buzz Buzz that rumble-rumble. But that’s to be expected! You have to make mistakes to be good at something.

That’s why the Coconu Wave surprised me so much. It’s a simple thing, but meticulous attention to detail is paid to each component, the first of which is the silicone. It is coated in platinum-cured silicone and surrounds the rigid internal structures with enough thickness that it still feels soft to the touch. Silicone is exceptionally soft, smooth and silky, never dusty or dry.

When you apply a few drops of water-based lubes, sometimes the silicone outer layer of low-quality sex toys can take on a sort of squeaky (like they’re squeaky clean) feeling to the touch. He’s a mood killer. The Coconu Wave massager avoids this problem entirely, which makes sense considering the company’s main specialty is lubricant. The Wave takes to water-based and coconut oil lubricants like a fish to water. The silicone cover becomes slippery and smooth (like the inside of your cheek), but never sticky or squeaky.

The way the Wave’s silicone exterior adapts to lubricants is an important quality not only from a sensory preference standpoint, but also from a functional standpoint. Because the lubricant distributes so easily over its surface, Wave provides rich sensations even when it is not on.

Surfing the wave

When you first turn it on, you feel a pleasant, light but deeply penetrating vibration, more rumbling than buzzing. It’s not what I would characterize as a high level of intensity and falls on the lower end of that spectrum, but the vibrations travel surprisingly deep even on the lowest vibration setting.

Turn up the intensity one level and the wave sings positively. This mode is great for indirect stimulation and the vibrations travel quite deeply to almost any part of the body. The tip of your nose is a great place to test how deeply you’ll be able to feel the vibrations from any vibrator, and with the Wave on its second intensity level, I was able to feel it deep into my sinuses. This is quite unusual for a toy of this size. For example, the Dame Pom, which I consider one of the best small vibrators I’ve tested, produced similar results in the nose tip test and costs twice as much as the $50 Wave Massager.

The internal motor is powerful for its size. It has 10 vibration settings to cycle through; The first two provide a constant vibration at different intensities, and the remaining eight go through different vibration patterns. It’s a decent amount of variety for a toy this size. The Dame Pom only has five intensities and five vibration patterns.
