The other morning I woke up from a bad dream full of anxiety. The cause of my anguish? I dreamed that I was trying to put on a pair of skinny jeans once again. I hate them almost as much as my other fashion bête noire: floral dresses.

Hence my determination to ignore the rumors that skinny jeans are making a comeback this year. Just when everyone had forgotten about them and was starting to look cool and relaxed in baggy and boyfriend jeans, the fashion industry decides to torment us once again with these ugly jeans.

Designers love to reinvent something old and call it new. So Prada and Miu Miu sent their models down the A/W24 runway in the tightest skinny jeans. There were even sightings of… jeggings. Has everyone lost their minds?

Why don’t I like this cut of jeans so much? For years, it was a plague in this country, with women everywhere, regardless of their body shape, squeezed into a torturous fit that makes thighs look enormous and knees look like cabbages, while creating uncomfortable underpants and They sink into the waists. It has taken stylists years of work to eliminate them from our psyche.

While celebrity fans include Kate Moss, Katie Holmes and Alexa Chung, the hard truth is that skinny jeans only look good on women with long, extremely thin legs. Period. If that’s not the case for you, do yourself a favor and stick with more forgiving high-waisted, wide-leg options. I certainly will.

Speaking of looking good, here are some flattering trends I’m excited to try:

  • Firstly, a great comeback for summer is the long pleated skirt, which looks very feminine with a jacket and ballet flats.
  • Another welcome return to fashion is the slouchy, over-the-shoulder tote bag. Carrying a packed-to-burst purse full of spare heels, a bottle of wine to share with a friend, a laptop, a phone charger, a wallet, keys and makeup essentials is nothing to be ashamed of: Jane Birkin She was known for filling and sporting the iconic bags that bear her name. And this pragmatic approach has inspired spring’s new, larger bag shapes.
  • The tactile softness of suede is a microtrend that has come to the fore, with some lovely jackets and skirts to choose from on the high street. The long leather trench coat is a fun take on the spring staple.
  • Bottega Veneta’s ring and earrings have whetted an appetite for chunky silver and gold jewelry.

Dash and Carrie

And so…the third season is about to start filming. Expect to see star Sarah Jessica Parker (pictured), who finishes hitting the boards in the West End production of Plaza Suite next week, return to her character Carrie with her old friends Charlotte and Miranda. We can’t wait to see the outfits.

In Game

I missed this bag last year. And I won’t make the same mistake again. Because believe me, it’s hard to find a stylish and decent framed raffia clutch.

All you need is tweed

Nothing looks more elegant for spring than a Parisian-inspired tweed jacket. With its metal buttons, this cropped khaki version from & Other Stories ticks all the boxes.
