Chase star Shaun Wallace has addressed rumours he has been “sacked” from the ITV game show.
Also known as the Dark Destroyer, Shaun, 64, revealed the real reason why he is sometimes absent from the show.
The 2004 Mastermind champion, who is a successful lawyer when not on the show, explained that his intermittent absences are due to his legal commitments.
Talking about The Hearing – A Legal PodcastShaun said: “If I have a long trial, that will take priority over my filming, and Chase knows that. But then I’ll have to make up my other episodes later in the series.”

Shaun, who has worked in the legal profession for more than three decades, does, however, acknowledge that his television role “could end tomorrow”, he told New Zealand Woman’s Weekly.
This comes after Shaun’s co-star Anne Hegerty, a Chaser since series two, admitted she is “worried” about the future of the contest as ITV makes budget cuts.
Anne told The Star: ‘We have plans for next year and we’re going to do less shows. All the streaming services are showing ads now.
“So channels like ITV have to compete for advertising money, which means there’s less money coming in from ads. All aspects of media are feeling the pinch at the moment.”
“Obviously one is always a little worried and always happy to know that there will be more episodes.”
Anne added that she doesn’t want to “imagine life without” The Chase, which she has been a part of since 2010.
Chase fans have vowed to “switch off” within minutes of Monday’s show after one Chaser admitted they are “worried” about the series amid ITV’s budget cuts.
On Monday’s episode, Lily, a sociology student at college, battled Paul Sinha, statistically the strongest Chaser on the show.

Lily, 20, struggled to get just three correct answers on the cash generator and after competing with Paul, 54, at the table, she was quickly eliminated, managing just one correct answer.
Viewers were left irritated by Lily’s poor performance on The Chase, hosted by Bradley Walsh, and took to X, formerly Twitter, to vent.
In a scathing tweet they wrote: “I really can’t stand how they have no idea what’s going on in the Chase. I’m going to stop doing this.”
