Mara made an awkward on-air gaffe in 2023 when she made an ill-timed joke about food poisoning.

She joked that she had sent her boyfriend to the hospital because of her poor cooking.

While the episode was filmed weeks ago, its release was ill-timed after the highly publicized mushroom poisoning case in Victoria.

Mara made an unfortunate comment on the Channel Seven show when she faced a contestant who loves to cook.

“I’m also an amazing chef and when my boyfriend gets out of the hospital, he’ll definitely be there for me. It wasn’t me!” she laughed.

Mara took to Instagram the next day to address the awkward mistake.

Sharing a screenshot of a news headline about the situation, Mara said the misstep happened before the mushroom incident.

“I promise this episode was filmed before the Death Cap debacle,” he wrote.
