The cease-fire agreement between Israel and the Palestinians goes into effect

Date:

The head of the political department of the Islamic Jihad Movement, Muhammad al-Hindi, confirmed to AFP, “the agreement of the two parties (Palestinian and Israeli) on the Egyptian declaration of a cease-fire, starting at ten in the evening,” explaining that the agreement “includes stopping targeting the mujahideen, and Israel has recognized things that it had not previously recognized.”

Identical Palestinian and Egyptian sources announced that Israel and the armed Palestinian factions had reached a cease-fire agreement, which came into force as of 7:00 GMT, under the auspices of Cairo.

An informed Egyptian security official said, “An agreement has been reached stipulating that, based on the approval of the two parties, Egypt announces a cease-fire between the Palestinian and Israeli sides at exactly ten o’clock this evening.”

He continued, “Accordingly, the ceasefire agreement, which includes stopping targeting civilians and demolishing homes, as well as targeting individuals, will be adhered to as soon as the implementation of the agreement begins. Egypt urges the two parties to implement it and works to follow up on that by communicating with them.”

Just before the agreement entered into force, Palestinian militants fired rockets at Israeli areas, according to AFP correspondents.

Since the start of the Israeli operation against the Islamic Jihad movement on Tuesday, 34 Palestinians have been killed in an exchange of shelling between the Israeli army and armed Palestinian factions in Gaza, while about 150 Palestinians have been wounded.

A person was also killed in Israel when a missile hit a building in Rehovot, south of Tel Aviv. The news website, “Ynet,” said an 80-year-old woman was killed in the bombing.
