The cause of death has been revealed for a North Carolina woman who was found “entangled” in a baggage claim conveyor belt at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport.
The death of Virginia Christine Vinton, 57, of Waxhaw, was ruled a suicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office on Friday.
He died of asphyxiation by hanging, a spokesman said. The Chicago Tribune.
The 57-year-old woman was found inside a restricted area at Terminal 5 shortly before 8am on Thursday, where she was found unconscious and “tangled” in the conveyor belt.
Surveillance footage shows the woman entering the vacated area around 2:30 a.m., five hours before her body was discovered.
Vinton was pronounced dead at the scene and was not an airport employee.

Authorities said the part of the airport the woman entered is restricted to employees and while it is considered secure, it is not a high-security area, ABC 7 reported.
This section of the international terminal is lined with conveyor belts that carry luggage to and from planes. Suitcases in this area also go through customs.
The terminal serves Delta Airlines as well as international airlines.

Last month, passengers were trapped on a shaking plane at O’Hare after ground and air traffic control were evacuated due to multiple tornado warnings.
Courtney Mares, a journalist with the Catholic News Agency who took the video On the plane, he said, ‘Our plane is parked on the tarmac at Chicago O’Hare Airport right now as everyone’s phones are receiving multiple tornado warnings.
“The captain announced that air traffic control and ground control had been evacuated,” he continued. “The plane is shaking because the wind is blowing it from side to side.”
The National Weather Service detected as many as ten simultaneous tornadoes in the Windy City metropolitan area on July 15, one of them heading toward the international airport.
