Bryce Young's time as a starter in Carolina is over after just two games of the year

The Carolina Panthers are reportedly benching Bryce Young after just two games of the regular season.

The Panthers are 0-2 and have been dismantled by both the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers, scoring a combined 13 points and allowing 73.

A change is already underway at center, with NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reporting that Andy Dalton will start in Week 3 against the Raiders.

Young had a dismal game Sunday against the Chargers, throwing for just 84 yards, the fourth-fewest in team history.

After the game, coach Dave Canales insisted Young would start in Week 3, but those plans changed less than 24 hours later.

Dalton last started a game in Week 3 of the 2023 season, once again replacing Young but this time due to an ankle injury suffered by the then-rookie.

Young was selected No. 1 overall last year and has played in 18 career NFL games.

Meanwhile, Dalton is at the other end of his NFL career, playing for his fifth team at the age of 36.

He was drafted in 2011 by the Cincinnati Bengals, spending nine seasons with the team before moving to Dallas.

He started nine games for the Cowboys in the Covid-affected 2020 season before bouncing back to Chicago, where he was named the starter but played just two games before suffering a knee injury and eventually being replaced by Justin Fields.

In March 2022, he signed with the Saints and became a starter in Week 4 following injuries to Jameis Winston, playing 14 times.

Last year, he only started one game and played in three, but now he has the opportunity to earn the starting spot in Carolina.

The Panthers look set to be among the NFL’s worst teams again this season after a dismal 2-15 season in 2023.
