The car designed for INFLUENCERS: Mercedes-Benz unveils its new E-class with built-in TikTok app

It’s the go-to app for many influencers around the world, and now social media stars can even use TikTok from the comfort of their cars.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a new car interior perfect for influencers, featuring a giant touchscreen, a selfie camera and built-in apps, including TikTok.

“Customers can look forward to a particularly immersive entertainment experience in the new E‑Class,” explains Mercedes-Benz.

‘You can experience music, games and streaming content in the car with almost all your senses.’

The futuristic interior will be launched in the Mercedes E-Class W214 model, which will go on sale this summer.

The new E-Class: main features

  • Huge touchscreen console
  • Five built-in apps – TikTok, Angry Birds, Webex, Zoom, and Vivaldi
  • Built-in camera for selfies and videos
  • Siri-like voice control system
  • Active mood lighting with sound visualization
  • Built-in wellness program
  • Motion sickness program

Fortunately for the driver, the car features an advanced camera-based visual shield, which lowers screen brightness and reduces the risk of distraction.

Speaking to MailOnline, Tom Leggett, vehicle technology specialist at Thatcham Research, explained how the Driver Monitoring System works.

“The Mercedes E-Class will be equipped with the latest Driver Monitoring System to avoid the risk of driver distraction,” he said.

“A camera (usually on the driver’s display) analyzes the driver’s eye movements and can detect whether the eyes are looking at the front passenger screen.

If this is the case, the brightness of the passenger screen will be reduced and a warning will be given to the driver.

In addition, the passenger display has ‘dual light control (DLC)’ which prevents dynamic content such as movies from being seen peripherally by the person behind the wheel.

‘This further reduces the risk of the driver being distracted.’

If a TV show or movie just isn’t working, passengers can choose to use one of five built-in apps instead: TikTok, Angry Birds, Webex, Zoom, or Vivaldi.

“With our mobile app, we are bringing little moments of joy to people throughout the day,” said David Saidden, Director of Distribution Business Development at TikTok.

“As we look to extend that experience for our users, we are excited to partner with Mercedes-Benz to bring immersive in-car entertainment, giving our community more opportunities to enjoy the content they love.”

Alternatively, you can take selfies or videos with the dashboard’s built-in camera.

“When the vehicle is stationary, the driver can participate in online video conferences via Webex, for example, and take personal photos and videos,” explains Mercedes-Benz.

The car also features a Siri-like voice control system, which users can activate with the keyword ‘Hey Mercedes’.

An ‘Active Ambient Lighting with Sound Visualisation’ system allows passengers to experience music with three senses.

“Music pieces and the sound of films or apps can be felt and now also ‘seen’,” explains Mercedes-Benz.

‘Visualization takes place on the light strip of the Active Ambient Lighting.’

This strip of light covers the entire car interior and lights up to the beat of the audio, be it music or TikTok videos.

“Fast successions of beats, for example, can cause rapid lighting changes, while flowing rhythms can create softly blending lighting moods,” explains the car giant.

Other impressive features include a built-in wellness program that can blast you with “soothing sounds,” “energizing light,” and “mobilizing massage,” and an anti-motion sickness program that keeps you from getting sick while filming TikToks on the to go.

The first models of the 214 E-Class series will arrive in Europe this summer and in the US this fall.

Mercedes-Benz has yet to announce prices, although the previous 213 E-Class starts at £48,775.

BMW unveils color-changing car at CES 2023 – but says it won’t go on sale

At CES 2023 in January, BMW unveiled a new concept car that flashes in a variety of colors.

The BMW i Vision Dee was unveiled during BMW’s keynote address, featuring none other than the Terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The electric car sports sedan uses electronic ink to transition between 32 colors, including purple, pink, yellow, white and red.

The body of the BMW i Vision Dee is divided into ‘microcapsules’ – small spherical particles with a diameter equal to the thickness of a human hair.

These microcapsules contain color pigments that, depending on the chosen setting, are stimulated by means of an electric field.

As a result, certain color pigments collect on the surface of each microcapsule, giving the car body the desired shade.

BMW i Vision Dee can also project an image of the driver’s avatar onto the side window, visible to outsiders.

And dimmable windows can also be used to ‘blur out’ reality, although this is designed for when the car isn’t being driven.

However, BMW told MailOnline that the car is just a prototype and it would not be marketing it.

Asked about the purpose of a color-changing car, BMW said it is “a vision of the distant future.”

“At BMW we are always trying to push boundaries, which also means exploring all aspects of innovative materials,” said a spokesman.
