A driver with a P license plate collided with two trucks traveling at more than 100 km/h after losing control on one of Queensland’s busiest roads.
Drivers travelling north on the Bruce Highway were stopped after the young driver crashed into two trucks and narrowly missed another car.
In footage of the accident, a silver Mazda 3 with red P plates can be seen veering into the centre lane and colliding with the front of the first truck.
Moments earlier, the hatchback was caught driving close to a silver Subaru, and the driver in front was seen braking several times.
“Road rage and brake control caused a serious accident this afternoon,” the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook page captioned the video.
“Unfortunately, our truck got caught in the middle and one of the parties involved ended up in contact with our truck.”
In dash cam footage shared online, the Subaru is seen traveling in the inside lane with the Mazda following closely before the driver suddenly braked.
The two continued for a short distance before the Subaru accelerated, leaving room for the driver of the Mazda to change lanes, before abruptly braking.
The incident, between a silver Subaru Outback pickup truck and a silver Mazda 3 hatchback, was captured on the dashboard camera of a nearby trucking company vehicle on Wednesday.
After swerving to avoid the vehicle, the Mazda lost control, veered into the center lane and collided with the first truck.
The Mazda then bounced into the left lane and collided with the second truck before spinning into the barricade next to the inside lane.
The driver of the Subaru left the scene after the damaged Mazda came to a stop with pieces of the hood strewn across the road.
Police said the driver of the Mazda, a 20-year-old Sunrise Beach man, was not injured.
Australians were left divided over which driver was responsible.
“Both drivers need to hand over their licenses! Great footage showing how stupid decisions affect innocent people!” one person wrote.
Another added: “The brake inspector is in serious trouble with the police for this… it might be illegal to tailgate, but the deliberate actions of the front driver caused two serious events, the latter of which led to a life-threatening accident.”
“Braking too much and following another vehicle too closely are two stupid things,” a third agreed.
A fourth declared: ‘Who cares how close someone is…don’t break control period!’
After a series of close calls, the P-plate driver of the Mazda is seen swerving to avoid the Subaru in front before colliding with two trucks traveling at more than 100 km/hour.
Others said the impatience of the driver of the Mazda, which still had a P license plate, was to blame.
“After the first inspection, Mazda could have backed up and stopped behind the truck, not acted as a full tool, and caused a serious accident,” one user said.
A second added: ‘Subie was overtaking, going almost 110km/h, and the Mazda was still pretending to be his shadow.’
“It looks like the Subaru was changing lanes to let the angry Mazda pass… but hesitated when the Mazda tried to speed past it,” a third shared.
Police have urged anyone with footage of the incident to come forward.
