Dressed in a studded leather jacket, zippered tartan pants and sporting a huge multi-colored mohawk, the actor in question dressed as if he were filming a new movie.

Working on location in New York City, the London star, 41, was filming scenes for director Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming thriller, Caught Stealing.

He will star in the new film alongside Austin Butler, Zoë Kravitz, Liev Schreiber and Regina King, but his own role as the edgy-looking punk has yet to be clarified.

Butler, best known for his Golden Globe and BAFTA-winning role as rock n’ roll pioneer Elvis Presley, was later seen on set with the British actor.

It was all a far cry from his best-known roles, including the late Duke of Edinburgh and a certain time-travelling Doctor… but can you guess who it is?

That’s right, it’s Matt Smith!

The former Doctor Who and The Crown star shaved his head for a new role in Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing, adapted from author Charlie Huston’s 2004 novel of the same name.

His role is the latest in a series of high-profile roles, including Daemon Targaryen in Game Of Thrones prequel House Of The Dragon and the upcoming Sky series The Death Of Bunny Munro, in which he takes on the lead role.

The actor was announced as the lead in Sky’s TV adaptation of singer and author Nick Cave’s 2009 novel in November 2023.

Cave will serve as executive producer of the six-part series, written by BAFTA Pete Jackson and directed by Isabella Eklöf.

The story follows self-proclaimed lothario Bunny Munro and his young son named Bunny Junior as they take an increasingly out-of-control road trip through the south of England.

They both struggle to contain their pain in very different ways.

While Bunny jumps from one sales pitch to another, trying to seduce any woman he meets, Bunny Junior attempts to talk to his mother’s ghost and distract himself from the realization that his father’s life is crumbling around him.

As he begins to fall apart, Bunny realizes that he must do something to rescue his son from his own outdated notions of what it is to be a man.

Smith said: “Working alongside Nick Cave on The Death of Bunny Munro is a huge honour. It’s a brilliant exploration of love, pain and chaos.

‘At its core, it is a deep, difficult and tender story about a father and son facing loss and change.

‘Clerkenwell Films and Sky seem like the perfect home to make such a bold story and Pete has delivered scripts that are equal parts wonderful, funny and heartbreaking.

“I can’t wait to collaborate with Isabella and begin the journey with everyone in Clerkenwell.”
