Amazon Prime Video show The Boys is coming to an end after its fifth season, the series’ showrunner announced Tuesday.
Eric Kripke shared what appeared to be part of the script for the season four finale episode, which was almost completely blacked out, while also revealing that the upcoming season would be the show’s last.
‘#TheBoys season 4 premiere week is a good time to announce: season 5 will be the final season!’ Kripke revealed.
“It was always my plan, I just had to be cautious until I got the final go-ahead from Vought,” he added, jokingly referencing the evil corporation that seeks world domination in The Boys universe. ‘I’m thrilled to bring the story to a bloody, epic, wet climax. Watch season 4 in 2 DAYS, because the end has begun!’
Fans of the show who have been eagerly awaiting its return since the third season concluded in 2022 will rejoice, as Amazon will put the first three episodes of the fourth season on air starting Thursday, June 13, with the remaining episodes to be released weekly.

Kripke said that ending with the fifth season was “always” his intention and included a script page from the fourth season finale.
The script excerpt that Kripke posted noted that it was from the eighth and final episode of the fourth season, which was titled Assassination Run.
The draft was dated February 2, 2023, and opened with a fade-out to a nighttime interior setting.
But everything underneath had been censored with black lines. The last word of the scene was simply “Blackout.”
Kripke will direct the final episode of the fourth season, while the script was written by Jessica Chou and David Reed.
The Boys debuted on Amazon in 2019 and quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its dark sense of humor and its departure from presenting a superhero story in the manner of the ubiquitous Marvel and DC films.
The Boys, based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, is set in a world where the public recognizes and respects superheroes, most of whom work for Vought International. However, superpowered individuals are largely corrupt and immoral.
The eponymous Boys are a group that opposes Vought and the superheroes and do everything in their power to take them down.
Karl Urban plays Billy Butcher, the leader of The Boys, while Jack Quaid joins his squad at the beginning of the series after one of Vought’s heroes accidentally kills his girlfriend.
Antony Starr appears as Homelander, the psychopathic leader of Vought’s superhero squad, The Seven.
Season four also sees the addition of Supernatural and The Walking Dead’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan to the cast.
He is the second Supernatural alum to appear in the series, following Jensen Ackles’ stint as Soldier Boy, the original leader of the Seven and precursor to Homelander, in the third season.

The Supernatural connection likely has to do with showrunner Eric Kripke, who created Supernatural and ran the series for its first five seasons.
Amazon renewed The Boys for five seasons in May, but did not specify that the season would be the show’s last at the time.
However, Kripke had previously said that he hoped to conclude the show in five seasons.
The Boys has proven to be a popular property for Amazon, being spun off into the animated anthology The Boys Presents: Diabolical as well as the college superhero series Gen V, with two more shows reportedly in the works.
