The boss of Non-Standard Finance has resigned as the lender fights to bolster its balance sheet.

John van Kuffeler, 72, who founded Non-Standard Finance (NSF) in 2014, will be replaced by Jono Gillespie, the company’s chief financial officer, as it seeks to raise £80m from investors to put it back on a more sustainable basis and deal with a pile of customer complaints.

NSF lends to customers with poor credit scores through its Everyday Loans and Loans at Home brands.

But in recent months, complaints have plagued the industry as rule changes around affordability controls led to millions of borrowers being missold loans.
