The Block’s Steph and Gian Ottavio mocked by judges for delivering ‘useless’ totally beige kid’s room: ‘Every child’s dream’

Steph and Gian Ottavio got off to a rocky start on Sunday’s premiere episode of the new season of The Block.

Childhood sweethearts were commissioned to design a children’s room themed after the character Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story movies.

But the couple tossed the bright, cartoonish brief out the window and created a beige room with heavy wooden furniture.

Judge Shaynna Blaze was surprised to look around the space, calling a rope ladder the couple set up, “just useless.”

‘The fact that you are not listening to the summary, what are you presenting to us? I mean, it’s not even a kid’s room,” she said.

Also unimpressed, Judge Neale Whittaker chimed in: “The assignment was to create a children’s room.”

‘If they were thinking of taking a little punt and showing the judges that they are sophisticated and grown up, and we would go in and be amazed. FAIL’.

Inspecting a heavy set of drawers, he added sarcastically: ‘I mean, every child’s dream, no doubt.

“It’s not even a children’s room,” he added.

Addressing the couple, who looked disappointed, host Scott Cam gave them a rebuke.

“We have seen contestants before forgetting a summary and then doing what they want. But this is the next level,’ she said of the judges’ comments.

In the end, the hard-working married architect from the startup came last in the rankings, with a low score of 14 out of 30.

‘The fact that you are not listening to the summary, what are you presenting to us? I mean, it’s not even a kid’s room,” she said.
