Scott Cam has some advice for future contestants hoping to make a fortune on Channel Nine’s ratings giant The Block.
The 61-year-old, who has hosted the show for two decades, said that if Blockheads do not want to be left empty-handed when the time comes to put their homes up for auction, they should be renovating them for the market and not for themselves.
Cam made these statements after last year’s controversial season of The Block saw House 2 pass by when it failed to reach its base price of $2.97 million.

With the hit reality show’s 20th anniversary coming up on Monday, Cam got candid about where he thinks the 2023 contestants went wrong.

He added that Blockheads should not stamp their personal touches on houses in terms of ‘taste’ and character.
“It’s crazy,” he added. “They’re not going to live there.”

“And I think some of the contestants get a little bit lost in the fact that there are so many amazing products available to them, they want to put everything into one home and that’s a little bit overwhelming for a family that just wants to buy a family home.”

Kristy and Brett’s House 3 was another of the 2023 renovations that met with a disappointing outcome.
It entered the auction with a reserve of $2,970,000 and sold for $100,000. $3,035,000, leaving the Blockheads with just a Profit of $65,000.
However, fan favourites Gian and Steph walked away smiling as they sold their property for a whopping $5 million, netting them $100,000 in prize money and a profit of $1.65 million.
