Ricky Recard has responded to fans who called him the heartthrob of The Block’s highly anticipated 20th anniversary series.

The 34-year-old Melbourne-based plumber has made quite an impression after joining the hit renovation competition alongside his best friend Haydn Wise on the Yellow Team.

As the contest began, Ricky gained a huge legion of fans with many viewers calling him their favorite celebrity and commenting on his appearance.

Fans were also charmed by his positive attitude and cheeky sense of humour, taking to social media to mark Ricky and his friend Hayden as their favourites.

Responding to the backlash, Ricky laughed off being called a “celebrity crush” while modestly insisting that he is in no way notable enough to be given that label.

“I don’t know if I consider myself a celebrity, really,” he said. Yahoo Lifestyle. “I think as a celebrity, you have to have a good resume, right? Like Shelley (Craft), she’s got the list: Saturday Disney for years, Funniest Home Videos, The Block.

“She’s an Australian icon and I’m a nobody. But if people want to fall in love with me, that’s fine. I appreciate the love.”

On The Block, Ricky also revealed that presenter Shelley, 48, is actually his celebrity crush – and he’s now gushed about how starstruck he was to meet her in person.

Just days after The Block returned to screens, fans were already calling for Ricky and Haydn to be crowned the winners of the 2024 series.

On Instagram, one fan proved they were the big favorites by writing: “Ricky and Hayden win!”

“Ricky was so cute,” commented another, while a third added: “My current crush is Ricky.”

Despite fans calling for their victory, the pair recently insisted they had no game plan, confessing: “We’re just winging it,” in a recent scene.

The best friends are up against the likes of married couple Courtney and Grant on the Red Team, and Queensland couple Kylie and Brad Vines on the Green Team.

Kristian and Mimi from Team Purple are no strangers to the spotlight after the couple went viral on TikTok for their Disney-themed wedding in Adelaide in 2023.

It has already been teased that the duo will be bringing the drama for the 20th anniversary season.

A source told Yahoo Lifestyle: “The feeling is that we’ve bought a lot of dynamite with these two and we’re just waiting for an explosion.”

The historical drama was hit by difficulties from the start, with WA’s Blue Team’s Jesse and Paige leaving filming five weeks into the season.

The shocking decision was said to be of the couple’s own free will and it was claimed they will be replaced by another eager couple in the 2024 series.

The next series of The Block was filmed earlier this year at the popular Victorian resort of Phillip Island.

Daily Mail Australia previously revealed that a Channel Nine-owned company has purchased Island Cove Villas on the Victorian island for a whopping $9.5 million.

Located two and a half hours from Melbourne, the site currently features nine homes, a communal pool, barbecue pavilion, tennis court and children’s playground.
