The bizarre reason Georgia football’s live mascot Uga won’t travel to Texas for mega college matchup

Georgia football's living mascot, Uga, will not travel to Saturday's game against Texas.

One of the most recognizable members of the Georgia football program has four paws in the team’s live bulldog mascot, Uga, who has his own dog den on the sidelines of Sanford Stadium in Athens.

Uga XI, real name Boom, is in his second season as the Bulldogs’ live mascot, but will miss this weekend’s mega road clash against Texas.

The strange reason behind this reportedly has nothing to do with Uga’s pre-death near-death encounter with living Longhorns mascot Bevo the last time the teams played in 2019.

Uga’s owner, Charles Seiler, said the reason is that his pup is “really young, immature and crazy as hell,” according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Seiler added that Georgia’s newest live mascot is not yet on a plane or bus, a necessary part of the trip from Athens to Austin.

Seiler directly denied that his dog won’t be making the trip because Bevo attacked Uga X, Boom Que’s father, on New Year’s Day in New Orleans five years ago.

Some college football fans on social media didn’t buy the excuse.

“Brother didn’t want to smoke,” said one X user.

The average longhorn steer weighs between 1,400 and 2,500 pounds, while male English bulldogs, Uga’s breed, weigh around 55 pounds. That’s the whole story of the tape.

The Bulldogs playing the Longhorns on the gridiron is the biggest college football matchup of the weekend and a possible preview of the Southeastern Conference championship game or a College Football Playoff matchup.

Either way, a possible tragic reunion of the pets will have to wait for another time.
