JLR is the largest car manufacturer in Great Britain
Thousands of jobs will be abolished at Jaguar Land Rover in the new year as it clambers to turn the matter around.
JLR, Britain's largest car manufacturer, could cut as many as 5,000 of its 40,000 employees, the Financial Times claims.
The company has started a biennial cost-saving exercise because it suffers from a sliding demand for diesel and poor sales in China.
It is expected that details on job losses will be announced in January, setting out its short-term strategy to restore its fortune.
JLR has cut 1000 jobs from its factory in Solihull.
JLR declined to comment.
