The Big Bang Theory universe is expanding! A new show from showrunner Chuck Lorre is in the works – following the global success of Young Sheldon
It’s official — The Big Bang Theory universe is expanding again.
Series creator Chuck Lorre, 70, who is also behind Young Sheldon, is in the early stages of developing another series based on the popular sitcom that aired from 2007-2019, diverse mentioned.
The new series will air on Max, the newly rebranded platform that brings together HBOMax and Discovery+.
No plot details have been revealed yet but it is believed to be an hour long series with new characters and the stars of Big Bang Theory will be appearing in guest spots.
The Big Bang Theory — starring Kaley Cuoco, Jim Parsons, and Johnny Galecki — ran for 12 seasons on CBS and generated big ratings for the network. Young Sheldon has aired for six seasons, has been renewed for a seventh and is the most watched sitcom on the air.

Lowery is also the creator of Two and a Half Men, which has consistently been the highest rated TV show for its 12 seasons.
He has also created Grace Under Fire, Dharma, Greg, Cybill, Bob Hearts Abishola, Mom and The Kominsky Method to name a few from his credits.
The new series, if you order, will be Lorre’s second for Max. How to Be a Bookie, starring comedian Sebastian Maniscalco, is currently in production.
Cuoco has said in the past that she would be open to a reunion offer.
The 37-year-old actress, who starred as Penny in the comedy opposite Johnny Galecki and Jim Parsons, said that while she loves getting back together with her exes, it “still feels like yesterday” that the show covered.
“I think in a few years or whenever anyone opens up about it, I’m definitely going to be down for it,” Calley added.
“It was a life-changing experience for all of us, and it would be great to do that for the fans as well, because we have such an incredible fan base that has stuck with us for so long.”
Parsons, who shot to stardom playing Sheldon, also looks back on his time on the series staple fondly.
In May 2018, he posted a shout-out to his Big Bang Theory castmates in an Instagram post along with a snap he took with stars Mayim Bialik, Cuoco, Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, and Melissa Rauch.

I’m so grateful for the actors in this picture and the cast members who aren’t pictured here — whether they’re in one scene or several episodes along the way; You are all my playmates that I fell in love with and became a stop-and-go part of my life.
He continued, ‘You’re my playmates when we don’t feel like playing but we have to because our job is to go out and connect and pretend we’re these other imaginary people and look each other in the eyes and say those words and I end up creating this other weird reality that has enriched my life more than it has. I will totally understand it.
I will miss you all and it all more than I can say and more than I can know at this time.
