New additions to our best portable chargers list in 2018 are the recently launched Mophie that uses a lightning connection for iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 7.
All power banks below have one thing in common: they are always there for you when the battery of your smartphone dies at the end of the day. It is the 21st century version of a lifesaver.
The problem with portable chargers in general? There are many of them. Some are better than others, with many of our recommendations balancing battery capacity, safety and a slim size for sufficient power.
We have a list of the best portable chargers that are divided into compact, powerful and even laptop-compatible portable chargers. Never fall back to 0% battery life.
Best capacity banks for capacity
Anchor PowerCore 20.100 power bank
A whole 20.100mAh to play with
ENORM battery size
Charging at high speed
Does not support Qualcomm Quick Charge
You have probably heard of Anker and this is one of the best portable chargers of the company. It comes with a huge 20.100mAh battery in it, which means that it can charge your phone or tablet multiple times before it needs recharging.
It also comes with fast charging for your devices if they use PowerIQ or VoltageBoost. It will not be able to use Qualcomm's QuickCharge technology, but it will still boost your device when you're on the go.
Mophie powerstation plus XL
The best portable charger designed for iPhones
Integrated Lightning cable
Great design of the fabric
Ideal mostly for the iPhone and iPad
The Mophie Powerstation XL is the best power bank designed for the iPhone and iPad, and we say that for various reasons: it contains an embedded Lightning cable that you can not lose, it charges via a lightning cable and you can charge it wirelessly with any Qi charger, so maybe you already have everything you need.
This 10,000 mAh power bank has a soft fabric finish and can charge two devices simultaneously, one via the 10 W USB-A port and another via the integrated lighting charger. You will not find that much use of this portable charger when you work on Android, but it is still possible to use that USB-A port to close a friend.
AUKEY Power Bank 20,000 mAh
Large battery capacity
Two USB ports
No quick charging
If the Anchor is not suitable for you, our next choice is the Aukey 20,000 mAh battery pack. It has two ports so you can charge both your phone and tablet at the same time and also have a light to show you how much battery charge is left.
The blocky design may not be for everyone, but this portable charger should be able to charge your phone and other gadgets a number of times with such a high-capacity cell.
iMuto 30,000 mAh power bank
Three ports and 30,000 mAh
Three USB ports
If you are looking for a charger with an even larger capacity than the above option, you can opt for the iMuto Ultra High Capacity portable charger. It offers a capacity of 30,000 mAh which will be able to charge your average smartphone more than six times and still have a battery charger.
It can also charge some MacBooks and laptops, but you can be sure that it is compatible with your computer option before you buy it. Given the price, however, you will find it difficult to find a 30,000 mAh charger for this small one.
RAVPower 22,000 mAh power bank
Three ports, but slimmer than the iMuto
Another portable charger with high capacity is here for you and this time it is from RAVPower with an option of 22,000 mAh. The design resembles the above options of Anker and Aukey, and although it does not have as much capacity as the iMuto, it has a much slimmer design.
You have three ports here, so you can simultaneously charge multiple gadgets and have enough capacity to charge both a mobile and an iPad or tablet from 0%.
Best slim asset banks
Xiaomi 10,000 mAh Power Bank Pro
A sleek, well-made portable charger
Portable, metal-lined design
Works for micro USB and USB-C devices
Xiaomi has a hand in a number of unexpected technological sectors, including audio and portable chargers. But do not sleep either, because it's on something that's worth watching.
During our tests, the 10.000mAh Power Bank delivered good results, both in terms of portability and charging potential. Although it was not the fastest charger, it was able to charge our Google Pixel 2 in just over two hours. Fortunately, it is discrete enough that you can take it almost anywhere to plug in when needed.
It is not uncommon for a power bank to come with a charging cable, but we appreciate that it has been built with care for both micro USB and USB-C users with the same cable, as shown in the above gallery.
Veho Pebble P1 Pro
Fast charging with a great design
Two USB ports
Charging via microUSB and USB-C
No design for everyone
With 10,400mAh on the inside, two USB outputs and fast charging technology, the Pebble P1 Pro is perhaps one of the best all-round power banks you can buy now. This has nothing to do with the defunct watch brand, but instead it is called the Pebble because of the design with curved edges.
This should be able to reload most phones at least two and a half times from a single charge, plus this powerbank can be recharged by microUSB or USB-C, so you do not need a specific cable to pump it back on as it no longer has juice.
Poweradd Pilot 2GS 10,000mAh
Fast to charge
Still quite heavy
Poweradd also offers a large, slim, portable charger, and it is one of the cheapest options on this list with a substantial 10,000 mAh cell in it.
It can be pretty heavy, but this is only 1.3 cm thick, making it a great device to slip into your back pocket when you're on the go. You will want to get a cable that fits, but unlike the Iceworks choice above, there is no built-in cable.
Anchor PowerCore II 10,000mAh power bank
The one who slips in your pocket
Super slim design
No cables in the box
We love this little man. The Anker PowerCore II 10,000 power bank is perhaps the most portable option in this list and allows you to have at least two full costs for your phone in your back pocket.
With a thickness of only 209 g and 1.5 cm you can take it anywhere and you will not feel weakened while still having 10,000 mA extra power for all your devices. What's more, it comes with Anker's own fast charging technology, which means you will not be in contact for too long.
As with many of the chargers on this list, no cable is connected to it, so you have to go outside with it.
RAVPower 6.700mAh portable charger
Clear with a large capacity
Bright color options
Can be smaller
This is the cheapest option for a portable charger that we have on the list, but this option from RAVPower must be suitable for charging your mobile phone while you are on the go.
It has a capacity of 6.700 mAh, with which you have to charge your average smartphone at least once and maybe even twice. There are three color options with the choice of pink, bright blue or silver.
The LEDs on the side of the device also show how much charge there is and fast charge technology is also installed.
Best power banks with many ports
MAXOAK 50,000 mAh
This may not be the most portable charger on our list, but it has many ports so you can charge multiple devices at the same time. It even charges laptops, as well as your phone and tablet.
You can charge six devices at once and with a capacity of 50,000 mAh it has the juice to do so, so if you are usually surrounded by a lot of technology, this is possibly one of the best chargers to buy.
Qi-infinity upgraded Powerbank of 35,000 mAh
Does not work with all laptops
Looking for another option with many ports on it? This can be a good choice for you because there are four ports and you can charge your MacBook, as well as USB devices like your phone.
There is also a fast charging port that quickly compatible devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S7.
Best power banks for both laptops and telephones
RAVPower Universal Power Bank travel charger
20,100 mAh capacity
The portable charger from RAVPower is an excellent choice if you need a device that can charge both your laptop and your phone. It has USB-C and normal USB outputs and an AC output, so you can connect your laptop charger directly.
There is also a battery with a capacity of 20.100 mAh, so you can run out of your phone or tablet several times before you have to recharge it.
Poweradd Pilot Pro2
23,000 mAh capacity
Easy to see display
Not particularly portable
The above image may be misleading because it is not a small charger and is capable of charging your laptop or tablet and your phone at the same time.
You can charge up to three devices at the same time and it has a capacity of 23,000 mAh, so it should last long enough between recharges.
