- City’s Joao Cancelo was the best player in the Premier League this season
- The 26-year-old scored the highest rating in InStat’s performance index

- Jesse Lingard is in the top five following his loan from United to West Ham
According to expert statistics, Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo is the best player in the Premier League this season.
The Portuguese defender has become an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s squad, who are looking for a very impressive treble with the Premier League and Champions League after winning the Carabao Cup last month.
In fact, the £ 60m signing has outperformed his teammate Kevin de Bruyne and Manchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes to be crowned the best player of this campaign.

Statistics show that the defender has outperformed Kevin de Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes
According to InstatCancelo has outdone every other player in the English top flight with his performances.
The metric used to define the rankings measures ‘the technical gestures achieved by players, their playing time and the level of the leagues in which matches were played’.
The former Juventus right-back has played 25 league games for the Citizens this season, scoring once and registering three assists.
The 26-year-old has contributed as much to City’s attacking prowess as to their defensive stability; with a 81.8% success rate and an average of two shots per match in the 2020/21 season.

Jesse Lingard, West Ham’s arrival in January, is in fifth place after a Manchester United lease
The chosen Premier League champions dominated the league table with Cancelo’s teammates Rodri, de Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez occupying the top four.
Jesse Lingard, West Ham’s arrival in January, is fifth in the system after rekindling his fires during his short-term move from Manchester United.
City’s Ilkay Gundogan, Aston Villa forward Jack Grealish, John Stones, Joel Matip and Kurt Zouma make the top ten on the InStat Performance Index.
The statistics have provided a few surprises, however, with players like Tottenham forward Harry Kane missing out on the top scores.
Harry Kane – who has 21 goals and 13 assists – scores lower than City’s Raheem Sterling
Manchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes was ranked 15th in the standings this season
Kane – who has 21 goals and 13 assists – scores even lower than Man City’s Raheem Sterling, who has nine goals and six assists.
Sterling, who had fallen a little more out of favor this season under Guardiola due to rotation, also scored higher than Bruno Fernandes, with 16 goals and 11 assists, and his teammate Phil Foden.
Fernandes finished only 15th despite being the best player for United, which seems destined to finish second this term.
There are some other shocks on the map as city defender Nathan Ake has been just as influential as Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.
Cancelo was only surpassed by three players in the rest of the elite leagues in Europe. Unsurprisingly, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi took the top score, followed by PSG’s Neymar second and Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski.
