Australian TV stars have rallied in support of a beloved reality TV makeup artist whose son suffered life-changing injuries after being hit by a train during a mental health crisis.
Helen Dowsley’s son Drew was seriously injured but surprisingly survived despite lying next to the train tracks for seven hours before emergency services discovered him.
Now a very emotional Abbie Chatfield has led a host of Australian stars offering their support to their “beautiful friend”.
Dowsley is recognized as a legend in the industry after her work behind the scenes on shows such as The Bachelor, Farmer Wants A Wife and The Masked Singer.
Chatfield took to Instagram in tears to explain that Drew had been suffering a psychotic episode for several days before the tragedy, but was unable to access any help.
“He showed up at the hospital, but they turned him away because he hadn’t hurt himself or others yet,” she said.
“That night he passed in front of a train and is seriously injured.”
While Drew was miraculously found alive seven hours after the crash, he has now undergone multiple operations in a Sydney hospital.
“Helen’s son has shattered his spine, he has lost his left hand, his right hand is badly damaged, he has a brain hemorrhage and many, many more injuries,” Chatfield said.

Describing the makeup artist as “the most generous, beautiful woman,” Chatfield said Dowsley always looked after everyone on set.
Family friend Victoria St John has created a GoFundMe to help Helen with medical and legal expenses while commuting from her home in the Southern Highlands to Sydney to be at Drew’s side.
“We are looking to raise support for our dear friend Helen Dowsley and her son, Drew, who recently suffered a devastating accident,” he wrote in the fundraiser.
‘Drew was hit by a train in a tragic incident that could have been avoided.
‘In the days before the accident, Drew was suffering from psychosis and sought help for his mental health at a hospital.
“But (he) was turned away and told they couldn’t help him unless he hurt himself or someone else.”
He added: “He has shown remarkable resilience and has survived despite serious injuries.”
“He was found seven hours after the accident and although he miraculously survived, the road to recovery will be long and challenging, both physically and mentally.
He praised Drew’s mother for being “kind-hearted and selfless” and “always uplifts others with her positivity.”

“She’s the one who advises us during the dramas of our lives on set, and now it’s our turn to support her and Drew,” he wrote.
“Our goal is to raise $50,000 to help with ongoing medical and legal expenses, as well as to help Helen provide the care Drew needs while balancing her work commitments and caring for her 95-year-old mother.”
