The Batman: dark and gritty first trailer reveals that The Riddler and Catwoman are playing deadly games
The first trailer for the upcoming reboot – The Batman – was leaked online ahead of its premiere at the DC FanDome virtual convention on Saturday.
And given the look of the official teaser that came out hours later, director Matt Reeves promises to give a fresh take on the high-flying adventures of Bruce Wayne / Batman, played by Robert Pattinson.
From the first few scenes, it quickly becomes crystal clear that the film has a dark and gritty feel to it, along with an ominous, suspenseful tone that keeps fans on the edge of the seats in exciting anticipation.

First look: The highly anticipated film looks dark, grainy and ominous
The teaser starts in a dimly lit room and the shadow of a man wrapping a dead man’s head with duct tape while eerie music subtly plays in the background.
Soon a close-up of the man’s head follows with “No more lies” written in red across his tape-covered face.
Gotham City Police Department commissioner James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) arrives at the crime scene just as Nirvana’s ultra-dark and gloomy song Something In The Way begins to play.

Batman first appears when Gordon asks him about a note addressed to ‘To The Batman’ has been found ‘from your secret friend’.
Inside it says, in part, “Let’s play a game. Just you and me.’
Batman confesses to Commissioner Gordon that he “has no idea,” but fans have reason to believe that this is the first of many clues from The Riddler (Paul Dano).

After being told, “You’re going to be quite a celebrity,” you can watch Bruce Wayne scrape away from a chaotic car accident in the busy streets of Gotham City.
At the end of the clip, there is another letter addressed to The Batman.
“Why is he writing to you?” an unknown person can be heard saying to Batman / Bruce Wayne.

Catwoman is then seen in action in a few clips that lead to several high-octane fight scenes featuring the Dark Knight.
Eventually, Batman is confronted by a gang of men whose faces are covered in white and black makeup.
“Do you have to be?” the gang leader asks the iconic superhero before going into attack mode on Batman, who promptly shows off his acrobatic fighting skills.
“I am revenge,” Batman replies after giving him a brutal blow.
The teaser ends with the Batmobile doing a quick chase through the streets

Mysterious: “You are separate from this too” may ask an unidentified person
The teaser ends with the Batmobile engaged in a high-speed chase through the streets where a criminal declares, “This man is crazy,” while Batman takes chase.
It ends with Batman taking off his helmet in yet another dimly lit room, revealing a moody-looking Bruce Wayne.
‘You are separate from this too’, another voice sounds and asks.
How am I separated from this? You will see.’
The Batman also stars John Turturro as Carmine Falcone; Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham DA Gil Colson Jayme Lawson as Candidate for Mayor Bella Reál; Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot / Penguin.
It is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2021.
