The 30-year-old will now star in season 29 of The Bachelor. The show is set to debut on ABC in 2025, it was reported.

This makes Ellis, a former professional basketball player and day trader from New Jersey, the second black bachelor after Matt James did it first.

The news was shared Monday night during the finale of the latest Bachelorette episode featuring star Tran.

Ellis was eliminated in week six by Tran.

“He’s eager to embark on a journey filled with romance, adventure and genuine connections,” she said.

“She hopes to find a partner who shares her values of loyalty, humor and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures,” ABC said in a statement.

The producers behind the hit franchise recently spoke out about the show’s diversity.

“It’s taken a lot of work to get back to a point where we at least feel like we’re working toward a positive,” the franchise’s executive producer, Bennett Graebner, told the Los Angeles Times.

Meanwhile, on Monday’s episode of The Bachelorette, Tran narrowed the final seven contestants down to the top four for their hometown week.

The episode was not without controversy, as Sam (who was given the first impression rose by Jenn on night one) was sent home after some controversial antics.

This week’s episode took place in Seattle, where a group date took the top seven (Devin, Sam, Jonathon, Grant, Marcus, Spencer, and Jeremy) to a radio station where the men were supposed to talk more about their feelings for Jenn.

Sam’s answers were awkward at best, and when Jenn pressed him about his feelings, things got even worse, to the point where Jenn kicked him out before the rose ceremony.

He also eliminated Grant and Spencer at the end of the week in Seattle, with Devin, Jonathon, Marcus and Jeremy advancing to Hometowns.

The episode opens in Seattle, after a trip to New Zealand, where Bachelorette Jenn Tran admitted she was able to “let my walls down with the guys,” adding, “I felt so connected to each and every one of them. But next week it’s hometowns. I can see my future with all of them.”

“It’s about figuring out who those four guys are going to be, that I’m meeting next week with their families. It’s scary for me because I’m sending home a really strong connection. It’s probably going to be one of the hardest decisions yet. It’s not going to be easy. On Joey’s season, I was sent home the week before to hometowns, and in that moment, I know all the feelings that I was having, and I can only imagine where these guys are now, and that’s why this week is going to be so hard for me, because these are serious relationships right now. I think I just want to talk to someone who’s done this before,” she said, before reuniting with last season’s Charity Lawson.

“Charity has been the single one. She has found love on this same path, and that’s what I want. I hope I can get some good advice from Charity,” Jenn confesses.

“I’ve been dying to talk to you, honestly,” Charity asks. “Okay, well, I just want to see how you’re doing with everything, because I know it’s a lot.”

“Yeah, I mean, Hometowns is next week. I just don’t want to make the wrong decision,” Jenn says.

Charity says: “I know. It will always be a bit of a ‘what if’, which is hard. It’s hard to accept.”

Jenn asks, ‘How did you manage to discern what you needed from certain people, you know?’

Charity says: ‘Yeah, I literally had a list of everyone’s names, and every week when I would talk to them, I would write down something else that was like a quality that, you know, they brought to the table.’

Jenn says, “That’s smart. I should have done that,” while Charity adds, “It’s okay. You still have time. So when I felt like reflecting, I had to look deeper at the things I wanted. And then, what did I need from them?”

Jenn adds that she still has seven guys to choose from and narrowing that down to four will be “very, very difficult for me.”

Charity asks, “Do you feel like any of the guys are holding back?” Jenn replies, “I think Sam is holding back a little bit. He reminds me a lot of my previous guys, in a way, that I’ve gotten close to, where we had a physical connection, and I think there’s more to explore, like emotionally. Is this just physical? What is it? And I think that’s maybe the part that’s scaring me.”

Jenn adds that Jeremy is someone I laugh with non-stop. I feel 110% myself with him. We have exactly the same sense of humor. But I don’t know if there’s anything more.

Jenn also adds that she thinks “Marcus is holding back a little bit,” adding, “I think he’s expressed that he finds it hard to be vulnerable, which makes me want to hold back a little bit too. But I agree. This week is so important and I want to feel confident handing out these roses and knowing that there’s a future there.”

Charity asks, “Do you see yourself getting engaged at the end?” Jenn replies, “I really feel like I can do it with some of those guys and I’m excited about it. I’m more excited than nervous.”

All the boys arrive in Seattle and Marcus says that the Emerald City is his “old stomping ground” and that he’s excited to be back.

The guys are all together while Jeremy, the only one of the group who hasn’t been on a one-on-one date, hopes Jenn is “saving the best for last.”
