A hero dog has taken down a man who was running through the pet’s back garden as he fled a suspected crime scene.
The man was allegedly part of a group of four people who were involved in an altercation with a 17-year-old boy at Melton South train station in suburban Melbourne at 5pm.
A fight broke out and the teenager was allegedly stabbed with a machete before the group fled the scene in the outer north-west suburb.
A 24-year-old Brookfield man tried to escape through a nearby backyard, where the homeowner’s children and nephew were playing.
But Oslo the Staffordshire terrier realised something was wrong and put his protective instincts to work as he chased and bit the man.
After being bitten, the man climbed a fence onto a neighbouring property, where he was cornered before being arrested.
“We knew he could have possibly been hiding in our backyard and the kids could have seen him, but since Oslo chased him, we were just happy he kept them safe,” owner April said. 9News.
A police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia: “It is believed the victim was approached by a group of four male offenders when a fight broke out at a train station on Straughton Street shortly after 5pm.”

‘Investigators believe the victim, a 17-year-old boy from Cobblebank, was armed with a machete but was overpowered by the attackers and suffered a slash wound to his hand during the incident.’
The 24-year-old who was bitten by Oslo was arrested a short time later but was released pending further investigation.
“The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” the spokesman said.
‘The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.’
The rest of the group has not been found and no one has yet been charged.
Oslo was praised for being a good boy and received lots of hugs and a big bone.
