It was decided to exclude Phil Foden, the star of the England national team, from the list of the team that will host the Ukraine national team, later on Sunday, in the second round of Group C in the qualifiers for the European Nations Cup (Euro 2024) for football.
Foden, 22, was absent from the match due to undergoing surgery to remove the appendix on Sunday morning.
Foden participated as a substitute during England’s 2-1 victory over Italy in the opening round of the group, last Thursday, before he was replaced later during the match, and he trained with his teammates normally on Saturday.
And the British news agency (BA Media) reported that the Manchester City player felt unwell and was taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery on Sunday.
And the Football Association announced in a statement: Phil Foden was excluded from this evening’s qualification match for UEFA Euro 2024 with Ukraine, after surgery to remove his appendix this morning.
The statement added: England coach Gareth Southgate did not call up a substitute, which means he has 20 players to choose from after Reece James and Luke Shaw were also suspended from the list earlier.
It has not been revealed how long Foden will be out of action, and whether or not he will be absent from Manchester City in the upcoming meetings.
