A 91-year-old driver has to hand in his driving license after accidentally driving on the wrong side of a dual carriageway.

The retiree’s silver Honda Jazz was captured on a dash cam racing towards approaching traffic on the A30 near Sherborne, Dorset on April 27 at 4:30 PM.

Another driver who narrowly avoided a head-on collision, but captured the footage on their dash cam, the gentleman reported via the Operation Snap website of the Dorset Police Department.

Agents revealed that they spoke to the older driver “sympathetically” and he decided to give up his driver’s license.

A spokesman for the Dorset Police No Excuse team said the police were “very happy” that no one was injured.

She added, “We are also grateful that the road was quieter than usual at this point due to the current situation.

“The 91-year-old gentleman and his family have since been sympathetically addressed by our team.

“He has decided to voluntarily hand over his driver’s license to us.”

She added that it was not a “pleasant experience to accept a driver’s license from an older person.”
