A woman who spent $ 21,000 dyeing her hair after turning gray in her twenties has revealed that she has since learned to embrace the look – despite cruel trolls calling her grandma.

Miranda Parker, 41, from Michigan, first noticed her hair turning gray in her mid-twenties, and tried to cover it up by the salon every month and dye it brown.

In between appointments, the social media influencer would update the roots at home so as not to show her grays.

However, after 12 years of visits to the salon where she was estimated to have spent $ 21,000, Miranda decided in July 2018 to cancel her regular appointments and let her gray hair grow out freely.

“When my hair first started to go gray, I didn’t want to hug it and did everything I could to hide it,” Miranda said.

‘Often times I wish I could just let it grow naturally, but at the time I just didn’t have the confidence to do that.

‘I was so tired of monthly hair appointments coloring my gray.

It would take about two weeks, then I used a root adjustment to hide it for another two weeks until my next appointment. I was ashamed of it. ‘

Posting images of her gray hair on Instagram, Miranda’s social media following grew rapidly as her gray-positive message resonated with other women online.

Now she receives dozens of messages daily from other women telling her that gray hair looks beautiful and that she has made them feel like they can embrace their own silver locks.

“ I was hoping that a high-profile female celebrity would come out and hug gray hair to make it acceptable to other people too, ” she added.

After years of not doing that, I realized I could be that “celebrity”.

At the time, I had no idea that I would have an impact and help other women realize that we have a choice in this matter.

But I wanted to show that gray hair doesn’t mean ‘letting yourself go’ or looking old.

Society says that gray hair makes you look older and that old is bad.

‘For me it has been the complete opposite. My gray growth has given me the freedom to be myself and feel more confident than ever in who I am.

‘I know my true beauty is on the inside, so I’m going to make the outside look the way I want it to look and not what someone else says it should look like.

Most of my friends and family have been supportive and encouraging.

‘I’ve heard some skepticism from some who said,’ Why would you want to look older? ”

You realize that you are living this life for yourself and not someone else’s opinion or approval.

‘I know who I am, I know what I stand for and my self-confidence has grown enormously through this process.

‘I’ve been able to give this perspective to other women by publicly sharing my journey and that’s my favorite thing.

“The opportunity to encourage all women to embrace their supposed” flaws “and just see what happens in your life when you do has been invaluable.”
