‘In the beginning there was of course no romantic relationship, we were purely a coach and a tennis student.

‘After finishing school I moved on to university and for a while we didn’t have much contact, except for the occasional text message to see how the other person was doing.

“We had each other’s phone numbers for tennis purposes, and after a while Bobby and I started talking more and more until we ended up talking every day.

‘In the beginning it was a friendship, it was like we were best friends.

“We both denied our feelings towards each other and kept saying we were just friends because we were so afraid of the idea of admitting our feelings.”

Bobby even tried to get Natalie to date other people because he felt he had a responsibility to try to end what was happening between them.

Bobby, who also has daughters about the age of Natalie from a previous marriage, moved to an apartment not far from where Natalie was staying for her studies.

Natalie said, ‘After Bobby moved into his apartment, we just hung out more and things developed, so in the spring of last year we decided to start a relationship.

‘We were both terrified. We had tried to move away from each other, but we just couldn’t.

‘We kept it a secret for a while because we were so afraid of how we would be judged.

‘I think I’ve always had an attraction to older men. I am super mature for my age so I can’t really connect with guys my age.

“Strangely, my mom had always joked that I had an eye for Bobby.”

After being quarantined together during the pandemic, the couple said they grew as a couple and didn’t want to lose each other, dconsidered biting through the bullet and making their relationship public.

“When the pandemic started to subside last summer, my friends started moving back into our house and I knew the point was coming where I had to start telling people what was going on,” Natalie said.

‘I got away with it for about a month, until one night my best friend asked me where I was going.

So that was the night I decided to tell her. She was a little concerned at first, but we talked about it and once she got to know our relationship she was fine with it.

‘I was most reluctant to tell my parents.

‘After I told my mom she was devastated. She did not accept the relationship at all.

She wanted to talk to Bobby and it was terrible. She thought he was taking me away from my childhood and was worried about my future with him.

“She also told Bobby he had a week to tell my dad or she would.”

Natalie says their relationship works because she's' adventurous and loves to travel, 'and not in the' party and drinking 'phase like most people my age'

Natalie says her father was furious after he told the news and didn’t understand why a man Bobby’s age would be interested in his daughter.

She added: “My parents wanted me to go to therapy because they thought it would fix things, but I didn’t really care what people think and it taught me self-love.

I hope and pray that one day they will be okay with the relationship, but we’re still not there.

“They still don’t like our relationship, but they tolerate it because they know it makes me happy.”

Bobby’s daughters were also not happy when he revealed he was dating Natalie.

She added, ‘After we started telling people, we felt so much better. It was as if a weight had been lifted from our shoulders.

‘My parents tried to take us through hell to separate us, but it just brought us closer because we only had each other.

‘I love being in our relationship with the age gap because I have an older heart and Bobby a younger heart.

‘I’m adventurous and I love to travel, just like Bobby, I’m not in the party and drinking phase like most people my age.

While the couple isn’t looking for age-gap relationships, they’ve created a YouTube channel to empower and shed light on those in these relationships.

Natalie said, “We want to help people in a similar situation to ours, and help them navigate the difficult parts, like telling relatives.

‘We know it’s not the most conventional relationship, but we’re happy and in love and that’s the most important thing.

“And we still enjoy playing tennis together in our spare time between college and Bobby’s work.”
