Girl names Charlie, Jasmine, Claire, Gracie and Lilly have fallen in popularity in the last 12 months, as have boy names Connor, Ashton, Vincent, Elias and Jaxon.

The ten least popular baby names among Australian parents for 2024 have been revealed.

McCrindle Research released its annual baby name report and while Isla and Oliver topped the list, there were several names that had fallen out of the top 100 entirely.

Girls’ names Charlie, Jasmine, Claire, Gracie and Lilly have fallen out of favor in the last 12 months; so have the children’s names Connor, Ashton, Vincent, Elias and Jaxon.

“Traditional” boy names, including Charles and Harry, also saw the largest decline between 2022 and 2023.

Charles just made the cut on the top 100 list and fell to 99th place, while Harry fell 17 spots and landed at 35th place.

It was no surprise that Oliver reigned on the boys’ name list for the 11th year in a row. Noah took second place followed by Henry, Leo and Theodore.

Isla was considered the most popular girl’s name of Generation Alpha, followed by Amelia, Charlotte and Olivia. Harper made another top ten entry, having appeared in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Luca, William, Charlie and Jack placed seventh to tenth in that order.

Isla reappeared in the top spot, knocking Charlotte, who reigned for seven years from 2014 to 2021, to number three.

Amelia sat between them in second place, and Olivia, Mia, Ava and Matilda kept their places in fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.

Harper, Lily and Hazel enter the top ten for girls, surpassing Ella, Grace and Willow as of 2023.

Ten names entered the top 100 for the first time, including Miles, who had the biggest jump of all nicknames, going from 101st to 48th.
