Portugal has been named the best country in the world to travel to, according to a new survey.
Global travel agency Flight Centre analysed responses from more than 170,000 travellers from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and the UK to determine the top 10 countries and cities this year.
Portugal, in first place, had an overall traveler satisfaction rate of 94 percent, while the Cook Islands, an island country in the South Pacific, followed closely in second place with a satisfaction rate of 93 percent.
Australia ranked third on the list, followed by Japan in fourth and Spain in fifth.
Travelers were also impressed by Singapore, which ranked sixth on the list, and Greece, which ranked seventh.

Rounding out the top 10 are Ireland (eighth), Turkey (ninth) and Vietnam (tenth).
In the ranking of cities, Perth, the capital of Western Australia, took first place.
Queensland’s capital Brisbane, on the opposite side of Australia, came second, while Queenstown, in the southwest of New Zealand’s South Island, came third.
In Japan, Tokyo, the bustling capital, stood out among travelers and took fourth place on the list.
Christchurch in New Zealand came in fifth.

Rarotonga, an island of the Cook Islands described by A traveler as a “major resort” known for its white sand beaches and turquoise lagoons, ranking sixth on the list.
The Catalan capital Barcelona came in seventh place, while Australia’s second most popular city Melbourne came in eighth.
Travelers were also impressed by the historic city of Rome (ninth) and Vancouver, Canada, which came in tenth.

Cook Islands Tourism CEO Karla Eggelton said: ‘This recognition comes at a time when we continue to enhance our tourism offering, focusing on regenerative visitor initiatives and more authentic experiences.
“It also underlines the dedication of our tourism industry and local community to providing unforgettable experiences for our visitors.”
He Cook Islands received a total of 163,552 visitors between June 2023 and July 2024, of which 2,533 came from the United Kingdom and the Nordic regions.
