Those thirsting for a different getaway to the UK now have the option of renting an entire 16th-century pub.
The Boar’s Head in Bishop’s Castle, Shropshire, sleeps 23 people and is available to rent through Sykes Holiday Cottages.
The holiday company explains that owner Darren Price transformed the building in 2020 “to keep the historic building in use and attract visitors to the area”.
Sykes Holiday Cottages says Darren has “maintained the appearance of a traditional pub, with exposed brickwork, roaring log burners and a very substantial bar where tourists can help themselves.”
The site continues: ‘To add to the atmosphere, the vacation rental also features a games room complete with dart board, Pac-Man machine and pool table, and the garden area features a hot tub, outdoor speaker and a seating area. Pint-sipping lessons are also offered for those who want to hone their skills.’

Reviewer ‘Ash’ said the pub ‘is exactly what it would be like if it were open to the public.’
Guests can make full use of the pub’s commercial kitchen and its range of appliances, and can also ask Darren and his team to “cook them a full English breakfast”.
Guests also have full use of the traditional bar with personal packages available from the owner to stock a bar stocked with cask ales, or guests can bring their own supplies.
Nearby attractions include Bishop’s Castle, walking routes such as Offa’s Dyke and Long Mynd, and National Trust points of interest such as Powys and Ludlow Castle.
The pub has proven to be a big hit with those who have signed up and has already secured 45 bookings for 2024.

‘The location couldn’t be better, with shops, other friendly pubs and cafes within a few minutes walk and beautiful countryside views surrounding the town.
‘The kitchen was very well equipped for cooking for large groups, which meant we got good value for money for our trip by preparing the food ourselves.
‘The owner was very responsive when we had questions and responded immediately. The only low point of the weekend was having to leave!’
Owner Darren said: “I wanted to give something back to the local community with The Boar’s Head and it’s fantastic to be able to attract so many lovely people to the area who travel from all over to stay with us.”

‘Full of character as Bishop’s Castle’s oldest pub, our unique property offers the complete holiday package, drawing on my 16 years of hospitality experience to ensure every guest has the best time possible.
‘Helping families and friends create memories through vacation rentals is so rewarding and having Sykes with me every step of the way has been a dream. I use them for my own holidays and they have been just as useful on the other side!’
