That’s too far fetched! Four jeans sold in the same store as size 18 came in vastly different fits

  • Zoe Evans, 29, South Wales, ordered four size 18 jeans from River Island
  • She spent around £170 on the garments which came in vastly different fits
  • The HR employee dropped out of the clothing store because of the inconsistent clothing sizes
  • River Island apologized, saying size was based on ‘standard body measurements’

We’ve all become accustomed to the fact that sizes vary between different clothing stores, but don’t expect it if they come from the same store.

So when Zoe Evans ordered four size 18 jeans online from River Island, she was annoyed to find that they arrived in wildly different fits.

Miss Evans, from Bargoed, South Wales, said that despite them all being the same size, each high-waisted pair of jeans – which cost her around £170 in total – looked half the size of the other.

The 29-year-old HR employee said: “They varied enormously. It wasn’t even the slightest difference between each pair – one pair of jeans was half the size of the other. There’s just no way it’s a size 18… they’re not cheap, so you’d expect them to be high quality and custom made.”

She posted a photo on Facebook of the different colored jeans, with seemingly different waistlines, lined up on her bed.

She said only the largest pair would fit, but added that she didn’t even bother trying on the smallest pair.

‘It looks like the sizes are 12, 14, 16 and 18, but they all are’ [labelled] as 18′, she added. Miss Evans, a mother of two, warned that such inconsistencies in dress sizes could be “disturbing” and hurt women’s self-esteem.

River Island apologized, saying the sizing was based on “standard body measurements” that were checked regularly.
