A millennial entrepreneur revealed how a casual conversation with a friend led to her self-care business which is now making a whopping $144k a week.

Xixi Liu, 28, started CheekyGlo with business partner Allen Fu, 27, in October 2020 in the middle of the COVID pandemic.

They worked out of Allen’s garage, at first with only a laptop, a label printer, and $1,500.

In the first four weeks of sales, they made $20,000.

Four months later, they had $100,000 in sales.

Now, they have more than 20,000 gloves for 16,000 customers in 49 countries, where they now sell one product every three minutes.

The company sells a range of exfoliating products, the most popular of which is the $32 Body Glove, which is inspired by user Xixi who grew up in Harbin, northern China.

“It’s our tradition to go to the baths and do a full body exfoliation with these types of gloves,” Xixi told Daily Mail Australia.

I told Allen about the gauntlet in a random conversation.

“He tried it too and was surprised!”

Since she was young, Xixi has used gloves to manage her skin condition Keratosis Pilaris.

Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength - especially during the global Covid-19 pandemic, when many prioritized self-care at home.

Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength – especially during the global Covid-19 pandemic, when many prioritized self-care at home.

When I moved to Sydney from China, I couldn’t find any product that was as effective as the glove back home.

What is keratosis pilaris?

Keratosis Pilaris, also known as KP or chicken skin, is a genetic skin condition that causes small, stubborn bumps on areas such as the arms, legs, thighs, and butt.

The common condition is harmless and is caused by a buildup of keratin around the hair follicles.

This is caused by a lack of sebum, the natural, protective oil that lubricates the skin.

Partnering with Allen, she then set to work creating her own version, which is now beloved by Aussies.

The glove works by grabbing dead skin and dirt, which means no need for harsh chemicals or grit common in exfoliating products.

Allen and Xixi also say that the gloves can provide a solution to common skin problems, in addition to removing fake tan.

Suited for all skin types, the 100 percent viscose exfoliating glove costs $32 each, while the silky facial glove sells for $55.95.

The “miracle” product promises to remove dead skin, dirt, and fake tan in just minutes, leaving the body feeling smooth after one use.

Xixi — who suffers from dry skin, keratosis pilaris, and ingrown hairs — said she noticed an improvement in her skin after using the glove on herself.

“The glove is a great natural alternative that doesn’t require any additional products to work — all you have to do is rub it on your skin after soaking in the shower,” she said.

The cloth’s unique texture adheres to dead skin and dirt, rather than relying on harsh chemicals and beads.

“The gloves create a visible skin exfoliation that gives customers the immediate satisfaction of knowing the product is working naturally to remove all impurities from their skin.”

The brand has seen sales soar since a Tiktok video of Xixi using the product went viral, with 4.3 million views.

“Tiktok has been instrumental to the success of our brand,” Shishi added.

“We are able to communicate benefits and showcase real case studies and real results while amplifying glowing customer testimonials.

What does the CheekyGlo exfoliating glove do?

  • It gives you dramatically smoother, softer and clearer skin
  • Easily removes unwanted old fake tan
  • Reduces the appearance of stretch marks and scarring
  • Promotes healthy blood flow and nourishes cells for glowing skin
  • Stimulates collagen production to tighten and tone the skin
  • It decongests pores, eliminates acne and ingrown hairs
  • The gloves are made of 100% viscose fabric, which means they are gentle on the skin.

“The latest video has surpassed our wildest expectations. Our jaws hit the ground when we saw $144,000 in just one week.

“Of course it pays to have a product that really works and the results really speak for themselves,” she continued.

Allen and I pride ourselves on our dedication to product development and rigorous testing to ensure the outstanding results for which we are known.

“Thanks to the reach and power of social media, we have been able to help a lot of our clients who were previously unable to find a solution to their keratosis pilaris.”

“CheekyGlo’s success can be attributed to teamwork, execution and great messaging,” Allen told Daily Mail Australia.

We were able to quickly create a framework for our business and quickly bring it to market in order to test our idea and product.

“Launching with an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) was very beneficial for us to test our website and our product. Combined with our brand messaging and our vision of making self-care natural, we really tried to account for all variables at launch.

We are extremely grateful for the support of friends and family who have been involved and supported our brand since the beginning. From there social media allowed us access to the world.”
