The shooter remains at large after opening fire at the Continental apartment building on Commerce Street around 12:15 p.m. Thursday.

Police said the conditions of the victims are still unknown.

A resident of the building told the Dallas Morning News She heard gunshots shortly after noon in the building.

The woman recalled hearing screams, so she took refuge in her closet and called 911.

“I needed to get to safety, I was shaking so much,” she said.

‘My lease isn’t supposed to end until the end of this year, but let me tell you it ends today.

“I don’t feel safe anymore.”

Dallas Police Lt. Tramese Jones gave a brief statement Thursday afternoon confirming that an investigation was ongoing and remained active.

More than 20 police units were called to the scene.

Jones said there is no further information about the shooter at this time and he also did not reveal any potential motive.
