The driver's door was opened at one point and Dhaliwal closed it while the driver remained in the vehicle.
When Dhaliwal turned to walk back to his patrol car, the driver got out of the car & # 39; almost immediately with a gun & # 39 ;, Lee said.
The driver shot the assistant sheriff from behind and slapped him in the back of the head. The driver got into his car again and drove off.
A deputy soon found a nervous man who found and arrested the driver's description at a company in a nearby strip mall, Lee said.
A woman who was supposed to be a passenger in the car was also taken into custody. Their identity has not been released.
