Houston Texans star wide receiver Nico Collins has signed a deal worth $72 million over the course of three years, according to multiple reports.
Collins had a breakout season in 2023 thanks to a great connection with rookie quarterback CJ Stroud.
The news was first reported by Dianna Russini of The Athletic. Other reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter say the deal is worth a maximum of $75 million and that $52 million of the contract is guaranteed.
Last season, Collins became the fourth receiver in franchise history to reach 1,000 yards receiving, racking up 1,297 yards on 80 receptions with eight touchdowns.
He joined Brandin Cooks, DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson as receivers with that honor.
Houston Texans star receiver Nico Collins signed a three-year, $72 million contract
Collins benefited from a strong partnership with rookie quarterback CJ Stroud in 2023.
Collins was set to become a free agent next season, but this huge salary increase will prevent that from happening.
He was taken 89th overall in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of the University of Michigan.
Collins, a consensus four-star receiver out of high school, opted out of his fourth year of college due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but racked up 1,388 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in his career as a Wolverine.
In his first two seasons in the NFL, Collins accumulated 446 yards and 481 yards respectively with three total touchdowns on 70 combined receptions.
Seeing that increase the following season of 80 receptions, 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns is impressive, to say the least.
In the postseason, the Texans receiver caught eleven passes for 164 yards and a touchdown.
