The Houston Texans are making a surprise change: the team fired the offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, according to several media reports. According to the reports, the coach of the offensive line, Chris Strausser, has also been fired.
Slowik, 37, was hired by the team in 2023 and joined the staff of the chief coach Demeco Ryan in his first season. The young coordinator arrived in Houston after six seasons with the 49ers of San Francisco, performing various roles in the template.
Slowik’s dismissal occurs less than a week after the Texans lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC division round, 23-14. Houston had trouble getting a touchdown in the first half of the game, apparently condemning the team from the beginning.
Despite reaching the playoffs, the Texans have been inconsistent in offensive throughout the season. The offensive production of the team was on average at low and the statistics of the second year field marshal CJ Stud were low compared to last season. Stud was also captured 52 times this season, which marked problems in the offensive line.
Even so, it is a surprising movement by the Texans, who improved exponentially in both seasons since Ryans and Slowik joined the team. Houston went from a 3-13 in 2022 to two consecutive titles of the South AFC and two consecutive appearances in the divisional round.
Slowik returned to the Texans last season after making multiple interviews as a chief coach. This year, he was already interviewed for the position of coach of the New York Jets.
