The automaker is eliminating the metallic black and silvery metallic obsidian options for its Model S, Model X and Model 3 vehicles. Buyers can get them if they are willing to pay more.
Tesla is trying to resolve the production potholes after struggling to produce Model 3 sedans and failing to meet production deadlines.
"Moving 2 of 7 Tesla colors out of the menu on Wednesday to simplify manufacturing," Musk wrote.
& Obsidian Black & Metallic Silver will still be available as a special request, but at a higher price. & # 39;
The color options that will continue to be available are: solid black, metallic midnight silver, deep metallic blue, multi-layer white pearl and several red layers.
The company already charges $ 1,500 for some colors, such as deep metallic blue. And it charges $ 2,000 more for the pearl white multi-layer and the red multi-layer.
Only solid black is included in the base price for a Tesla vehicle.

"From time to time we adjust the prices and options available to better reflect the value of our products and simplify our manufacturing operations," said a Tesla spokesperson.
"The adjustments made today are the latest example of that, the model 3 dual-engine four-wheel drive is now a $ 6,000 option and, as of September 13, we will eliminate two paint options.
Tesla shares fell more than 3 percent late on Tuesday morning, after closing 8.5 percent at $ 285.50 on Monday, pushed higher after two brokers said the company could meet your production goals for the second half of the year.
"Eliminating the painting options will not be the last action to simplify the production of the car," said Frank Schwope, analyst at the German bank NORD / LB.
"Tesla has no experience with mass production, they still need a lot of production experience."
Elon Musk recently told employees that the company is ready to have the most incredible quarter of the year & # 39; of its history, building and delivering more than twice as many cars as last quarter & # 39;
On the other hand, the automotive news website Electrek reported that Tesla is now launching its own "body repair centers" to reduce repair time.
Tesla has not yet confirmed the details outlined in the report.
Body Repair Centers could help alleviate some of the complaints raised by Tesla owners that the company takes too long to repair the service.
The firm has previously contracted bodywork workshops, but will now build repair centers in nine of its existing service centers, which carry out repairs on already sold cars.
These locations include service centers in Bellevue, Washington, Dallas, Eatonville, Florida, Houston, Las Vegas, Marietta, Georgia, Owings Mills, Maryland, Van Nuys, California and Villa Park, Illinois.
It comes just as Musk recently told employees that the company is ready to have the "most incredible quarter" of its history.
Reports indicated that Tesla plans to open internal body repair centers to help service the cars that have already been sold. I would solve consumer concerns that repairs are too slow
WHAT DOES ELON MUSK SAY TO STAFF AFTER TESLA REACHED THE PRODUCTION OF LANDMARK 5,000 MODEL 3S A WEEK?
From: Elon Musk
July 1, 12:37 p.m.
We did it!! What an amazing job for an amazing team! I could not be more proud to work with you. It is an honor
The level of dedication and creativity was amazing. Either we find a way or, by will and inventiveness, we create completely new solutions that were thought impossible.
Intense in tents. Transport of complete production lines around the world in mass cargo planes. Whatever. It worked.
We not only manufacture more than 5000 models 3, but we also achieve the S & X production goal for a combined week of 7,000 vehicles.
In addition, with the generalized productivity gains at Tesla and the new tail production lines, we are on track to reach 6k / week for Model 3 next month.
I think we've just become a real car company …
Thank you for your hard work and dedication,
"We are about to have the most amazing quarter in our history, building and delivering more than twice as many cars as last quarter," he wrote in an internal email to staff.
"For a while, there will be a lot of fuss and noise in the media, just ingoralos, the results are what matter and we are creating the most amazing growth in the history of the automotive industry."
Musk added that Tesla promoted six key executives for new roles.
However, Tesla has also faced bad news in recent weeks.
A number of executives recently left the company, while Musk faces an investigation informed by the SEC about his tweets about the privatization of the company.
