A dramatic video has captured the moment when a shark attacks tourists on a beach in Gran Canaria.

Footage shows the beast, accompanied by what appears to be a second shark, slicing through the waves towards screaming beachgoers on Monday night.

The terrifying incident, which was shared on TikTok, took place on a beach in Las Palmas, a popular holiday destination in Spain’s Canary Islands.

In the footage, the shark’s razor-sharp fin can be seen cutting through the waves as it heads straight for shore, causing swimmers to scream in fear.

The shark moves quickly towards shallower waters, while cries of alarm from people on the sand can be heard in the background.

A young woman can be seen running away from the shark as it comes incredibly close to the shore, with its fin and tail clearly visible just a few metres from the sand.

The shark eventually turns around and swims back into the sea, to the relief of onlookers.

The incident happened on Monday night and highlights the increasing number of shark sightings on popular Spanish beaches this year.

Several beaches on the coasts of mainland Spain and its surrounding islands have been closed during the summer as a precautionary measure due to sightings.

In May, tourists and locals fearing for their safety were banned from entering the sea following a shark sighting at Arenal d’en Castell beach in Menorca.

Coastguards raised the red flag and called emergency services after a blue shark fin was spotted two metres above the waterline, dangerously close to shore.

Shocking video showed the shark patrolling the water near a boat, just off the coast of the beach at around 3:30 p.m.

The shark sighting is believed to be the first this year near a Costa beach.

In June, harrowing footage shows the moment a 2-metre shark swims towards the coast of Gran Canaria, as the beach is forced to close to bathers amid terror among locals and tourists.

The young men could be heard shouting as the large fish approached the shore at high speed with its distinctive fin sticking out of the water.

Police rushed to Melenara beach on the island’s east coast after the alarm was raised at around 5pm on June 15.

The lifeguards had previously helped to clean up the sea and shortly afterwards the red flag was raised.

Images from the scene showed young people running for safety as the shark swam towards shore before turning around at the last minute after thrashing in the water.
