Denmark’s Queen Mary was left visibly shaken after a motorised scooter ploughed into a crowd and knocked her to the ground during her royal visit to Greenland.

The Australian-born Queen, 52, was greeting royal supporters in the country’s capital Nuuk when she was struck by an elderly man on a dark grey scooter.

Her youngest children, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, were just metres away in the crowd when she collapsed, horrifying onlookers.

King Frederik was also greeting fans nearby when the scooter hit his wife, causing her to lose her balance and fall to the ground.

The popular queen let out a strangled “argh” as she fell. She looked exhausted, though she struggled to maintain her composure after getting back to her feet.

Her security guards quickly sprang into action after the Queen was hit and stopped the scooter from moving any further.

The scooter driver appeared more shaken than the Queen after the incident and said he “didn’t know what happened”.

He had thought of reaching out to Queen Mary, hoping she would take it, but instead he stepped on the accelerator.

The Palace’s media team revealed that the popular royal was not injured during the incident and continued with events as planned.

Both the police and the palace security are satisfied with the old man’s explanation and consider the incident an accident.

But her fans, who applaud her for being so close to the public and care about her, had a lot to say.

“Why was someone allowed to get so close on a motorcycle?” one woman asked.

“Security is very poor. Luckily this just seemed like a freak incident. Hopefully the security team will take more sensible measures,” criticised another.

The Queen did not allow the incident to affect the rest of the trip.

“I know everyone wants to be close to her… but some common sense please,” a third pleaded.

Some people said she was “definitely hurt” in the incident, but kept it private.

“At least if I wasn’t in pain, I would have been the next day,” one fan said.

“She’s doing great right now, everything is wonderful, that’s her job,” said another.

But others sympathized with the scooter user.

“It actually looks like an electric scooter, not a recreational one. So the disabled person was there, like everyone else nearby, as part of the gathered crowd,” they said.
