This is the terrifying moment a passenger plane lands at Madeira airport as it is buffeted by strong winds before bouncing down the runway.

In the images of the wild landing, the TAP Air Portugal Airbus can be seen for the first time flying through the sky after a flight from Porto Santo to Santa Cruz airport.

But although everything seems to be going well, the plane soon begins to drift from side to side as it tries to maintain its balance before landing.

The strong gusts seem to become more of a challenge as the plane rolls to the right and the mountains and sea come into view.

At a moment when the hearing stops, the plane begins to wobble and plummet towards the airport floor before being dragged back into the air.

There was a cloud of smoke as the wheels hit the ground.

After a shaky descent, the plane finally landed before bouncing down the runway.

A cloud of smoke appeared around the plane's wheels when it finally made contact with the runway.

The airliner can be seen twisting and turning in the air as it continues its bumpy descent.

Footage then shows the Madeira airport runway coming into view, and tensions rise over whether the plane will be able to make a smooth and safe landing.

Tilting from left to right, the jet approaches the painted runway, leaving spectators gripping the edges of their seats.

After one final nosedive, the plane shakes as its front wheels hit the ground, causing the plane to slide down the runway as a cloud of smoke appears around the plane.

The rear wheels go up and down, causing the plane to begin bouncing down the runway as it slowly heads toward what looks like the edge of a cliff.

Finally, the plane, which fortunately was not carrying passengers at the time, appears to be under control after the dubious landing.

It drives peacefully in a straight line for the rest of the track before the footage ends.

The video was uploaded to the Madeira Airport Spotting YouTube channel, where plane fans claimed: ‘This is without a doubt the wildest landing ever made at Madeira Airport!’

More than 640 viewers also flooded the comments section with their thoughts on the strange landing.

One said: ‘I’m no expert, but 1) They look wildly unstable in the finals, 2) They land beyond the touchdown zone, and 3) They land nose gear first. “I’m quite surprised they continued with that approach much less attempted to land.”

Another added: ‘I’ve NEVER seen a landing like that. WOW. As I heard many years ago in flight school, “You can ALWAYS go around.”

A third chimed in: “This touchdown is absolutely crazy.” Go ahead and try again, Captain!!!!!!!’

Madeira is an archipelago located in the North Atlantic Ocean.

It is located almost 400 kilometers north of the Canary Islands and 510 kilometers west of Morocco, making it subject to various weather systems, including strong winds.

According to The History Channel’s Most Extreme Airports, Madeira Airport is ranked the ninth most dangerous airport in the world and the third most dangerous in Europe.

Crews must undergo additional flight training to land there.
