A British tourist witnessed his girlfriend being shot dead by a gunman in the lobby of their hotel in Brazil yesterday in a horrific robbery gone wrong.
The tourist, whose name was reported as Philip Donald, 38, was staying at a guesthouse by the beach in Praia do Cumbuco, Ceará state, with his Brazilian partner Ruth Mary Silva de Oliveira Ribeiro when the couple was attacked by a violent robber.
The unidentified attacker, wearing a motorcycle helmet, approached the couple at the hotel reception shortly before 4pm as they were leaving the building for the nearby Fortaleza airport.

The trio engaged in a bitter fight that spilled over into the hotel grounds, where the robber pulled out a gun and fired a volley of shots at his victims.

The Brazilian woman died at the scene, just metres from her British boyfriend, who was also seriously injured in the attack.
He was rushed to hospital for critical treatment, but there have been no updates in local media about his condition.
Local media He said the couple were carrying the equivalent of more than £4,000 in cash at the time of the robbery, adding that the attacker arrived at the scene asking for the couple.
This suggests that the robber knew his victims beforehand or had somehow received information that they would be carrying large sums of money, but further information has not yet been revealed.
Police are now searching for the gunman and his motorcycle-riding accomplice who helped him escape the scene.
Brazil’s Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense said four different assassination squads are investigating the killing.
An FCDO spokesperson told MailOnline: “We are assisting the family of a British man who has been hospitalised in Brazil and are in contact with local authorities.”
