Ariel Cruz decided to walk to Gulf Station on Feb. 11 around 11 p.m. after running out of alcohol while watching the football team’s overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs when he noticed a motorcycle gang in the area. According to the San Francisco Standard.

Cruz, still wearing a red 49ers jersey, could be seen frantically waving his arms as two police officers with batons drawn attempted to talk to him, before eventually deciding to call for backup.

The quad then crashes into a pole in front of one of the gas pumps with such force that the driver is thrown from his seat.

He then appears to get up and run away from the two police officers on the scene, who watched them walk away, as Cruz struggles to his feet, stumbling as he gets to his feet.

Cruz said he suffered a knee injury and a concussion as a result and was unable to walk for more than a month, leaving him unable to perform his job as a painter.

Julian Ulloa Gomez, 31, was eventually arrested for the August 29 incident. according to KRON.

He now faces charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon (the Yamaha FX quad he was riding) against an officer, as well as filing a false police report.

Police said Ulloa Gomez nearly ran over one of the officers at the scene, and noted that the San Francisco Police Department was already at the gas station at the time of the attack conducting a separate investigation.

Ulloa Gómez was admitted to prison on August 30 at 12:48 p.m. and has already appeared in court to face the charges.

After the hearing, Cruz said, police had to take him home because of the large number of supporters the suspect had in the courtroom.

“Mr. Ulloa Gomez is a long-time resident of the San Francisco Bay Area who, until his arrest, worked for years for a local towing company,” Deputy Public Defender Eden Schwartz told The Standard.

“He has the support of his family and our office is committed to defending him against these charges.”
