To calm the situation, a UNIFIL force was deployed in the area, and the Lebanese army called for additional reinforcements.
On Friday, the Israeli army fired tear gas canisters at the residents of the villages of Kfar Shuba and Arqoub, which are located on the border line in southern Lebanon, which led to tensions in the region, according to local Lebanese media.
It reported that a citizen suffocated during his participation in a protest that was organized against the Israeli forces leveling their lands at the border.
It stated that clashes broke out between the two sides, which necessitated the intervention of the Lebanese army, which mobilized its elements in the vicinity of the town of Kfar Shuba.
According to Israeli media, soldiers from the Lebanese army raised their weapons at the Israeli forces, and a soldier aimed an RPG launcher at an Israeli army tank.
To calm the situation, a UNIFIL force was deployed in the region, and the Lebanese army called for additional reinforcements.
And the Israeli army announced that it “used tear gas to disperse terrorists who it said had tried to sabotage obstacles set up by the army in the recent period.”
The Israeli army later issued a statement saying: “A number of rioters tried to damage the border barrier in the Jabal Ross area and threw stones at military forces that were active in the place,” adding that “the forces responded by using means to disperse the demonstrations.”
“The IDF will not allow the sovereignty of the State of Israel to be violated,” Avichai Adraee, a spokesman for the Israeli army, said, noting that the actions will continue and will not stop despite what happened.
Andrea Tenenti, UNIFIL spokesperson, commented on what happened, saying: “UNIFIL is present on the ground, and they have been on the ground from the beginning to ensure the continuation of the cessation of hostilities and to help ease tensions.”
The demonstrators raised the Lebanese and Palestinian flags at advanced points on the border.
This pause came, days after citizen Nasser Ismail, from the same area, confronted an Israeli military bulldozer while it was bulldozing his land in southern Lebanon.
In a video scene that was widely circulated on social media, Ismail appears as he confronted the bulldozer with his body, which continued to advance towards him and began burying him under the soil, before UNIFIL forces intervened at the last moments and rescued him.
There are no relations between Israel and Lebanon, and the two countries are considered to be in a state of hostility
The Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, had threatened a few days ago to return Lebanon to the stone age, if Hezbollah made a mistake and attacked Israel.
